Abstract:Artificial joint replacement is widely used in clinic, and prosthetic joint infection (PJI) is its disastrous complication.Biofilm is a special membrane-like structure formed by bacteria on the surface of biomedical materials, which protects bacteria from antibiotic treatment and immune system, making eradication difficult. The drug resistance of pathogenic bacteria caused by PJI is one of the reasons for the delayed healing after operation, and it is also the focus of the treatment of PJI.At present, the overall therapeutic effect of PJI is not ideal, and there is still a high failure rate. The reason related to this high failure rate is the lack of a safe, effective and easy-to-implement method to remove bacterial biofilm. Therefore, this paper will review the strategies of biofilm removal from three aspects: physical removal, chemical removal and biological removal,in order to provide ideas for the clinical treatment of PJI.
