Abstract:Abstract: [Background] Schwannomas originate from Schwann cells of the nerve sheath. Schwannomas are the most common histological type of intravertebral tumors, but their incidence is not high. Schwannomas with giant calcifications are even rarer. [Case Description] The 66-year-old female patient was admitted to hospital with long-term low back pain, which was recently aggravated and accompanied by numbness in the lower extremity. Imaging examination showed a subdural and extramedullary mass in the spinal canal at the lumbar level 2 with huge calcification. The tumor was removed completely and the swelling was hard and irregular. Postoperative symptoms were relieved, and the pathology was schwannoma with calcification. [Conclusion] Schwannomas with giant calcification are extremely rare, but this differential diagnosis cannot be ignored, making preoperative diagnosis difficult. Surgical treatment is often used, and the prognosis and survival rate of patients undergoing surgical resection are relatively good.
