Abstract:Far-out syndrome (FOS) is a disease characterized by pain caused by compression of L5 nerve roots outside intervertebral foramen. It is distinguished from the position of the nerve root in general compression. In order to confirm the diagnosis of FOS, CT, MRI and neurography are better diagnostic methods. Conservative treatment should also be considered in patients with defined FOS. But if there are symptoms that cant be relieved, surgery is the best way to solve the problem. Decompression is certainly effective, but the decision to perform fusion surgery should be reconsidered on a case-by-case basis. The disease is rarely reported, and there is no consensus on the best procedure. Efficacy analyses and controlled studies with large samples are also lacking. Further research should be carried out in the future to understand and manage the disease.
