Abstract:Parvimonas micra ( P. micra ) is an anaerobic gram-positive coccus that is typically found in the skin, oral cavity, gastrointestinal and genitourinary tract. P. micra is frequently found in odontogenic infection but rare observed in intervertebral space infection. Staphylococcus aureus is the major pathogen of intervertebral space infection, followed by streptococcus and enterococcus. To date, no relevant literature has been reported nationally on lumbar infection by P. micra. This article presents a rare case of lumbar interspace infection complicated with epidural abscess diagnosed patient, the diagnosis of which was indicated by next generation sequencing (NGS) and cured by one-stage lumbar posterior debridement, bone fusion and posterior fixation. Based on the literature review, this article summarized the epidemiological characteristics, pathogenesis characteristics, diagnosis and treatment experience of lumbar pyogenic spondylodiscitis caused by P. micra, and put forward suggestions for the diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
