Abstract:Abstract:[Objective] To investigate the difference of total bone mineral density (BMD), trabecular thickness, fraction bone volume, and trabecular separation in patients with spinal tuberculosis (STB) and pyogenic spondylitis (PS).[Methods] Data of 36 patients with bone destruction who underwent spine surgery at xiangya hospital of central south university were collected. Patients were divided into spinal tuberculosis group and pyogenic spondylitis group. Patients were matched according to gender, the course of disease, age, body mass index(BMI), whole body bone mineral density, preoperative Focal vertebral and adjacent verterbral CT value were recorded. Comparing the difference between the groups; Micro-ct was used to scan the bone tissues around the lesions , and the differences of bone trabecular thickness, bone volume fraction and trabecular separation between the two groups were analyzed.[Results] There was no statistical significant difference between the groups in terms of the disease time and whole-body bone mineral density. Compared with the adjacent vertebral bodies, CT values of the focal vertebral bodies in both groups increased but there was no statical significant difference .Both trabecular thickness and fraction bone volume increased while the trabecular separation decreased in STB group relative to PS group .[Conclusion] Compared with pyogenic spondylitis, the pathological osteogenic effect around the lesions of spinal tuberculosis is significant increased, the density and thickness of bone trabeculae in the local lesions are increased, but the bone mineral density of the whole body is not significantly changed.
