Abstract:[Objective] To introduce the surgical technique and preliminary results of Masquelete combined with double plate for the treatment of tibial diaphysis defect. [Methods] From January 2016 to January 2019, 18 patients with large tibial diaphysis bone defect were treated by induction membrane technology combined with double plate. The deformity was evaluated before surgery, and the defect was completely decreated. After infection control, bone cement was filled and the wound was covered, and skin flap was repaired when necessary. After the induction membrane was formed, the bone cement was removed and bone grafting was performed at the defect site. Meanwhile, the tibial internal and lateral plates were fixed through the same incision. [Results] All patients were successfully operated without serious complications. After 12 months of follow-up, VAS score, Lowa knee function score and Lowa ankle function score were significantly improved in the last follow-up compared with those before surgery (P < 0.001). Postoperative superficial wound infection in 2 patients was healed by increasing dressing change times and using anti-infective drugs. [Conclusion] Masquelete technique combined with double steel plate can effectively treat large segment of tibial shaft bone defect with good postoperative healing, which has the advantages of simple operation, high patient acceptance and less complications, etc., and is worthy of clinical promotion.
