Abstract:Objective To evaluate the curative effect of intramedullary pointed hook plate in the treatment of lateral malleolus fractures. Methods During the period from Aug 2016 to Feb 2019, 50 patients were treated at our institute using intramedullary pointed hookplate for repair of Weber Type A distal lateral malleolus fracture , the average age was 39 years old( range 18 to 65). There were 28 males and 22 females. Regular follow-up after operation, during the reexamination, the bone union was observed by taking a film. The functional rehabilitation the patients' ankle joints were assessed by the range of motion (ROM), scores set by American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) and patient' satisfaction. Results All fractures healed well, and the clinical healing time was 16-24 weeks, with an average of 20 weeks. There were statistically significant differences in dorsal extension activities (P < 0.05), while there were no statistically significant differences in other activities (P > 0.05) at the last followup. The AOFAS score was 85-95 with an average of 92.3 points, 46 cases were excellent and 4 cases were good of satisfaction evaluation. One patient developed symptoms of bone resorption and osteomyelitis, which improved after the internal fixation removed. Conclusion The intramedullary pointed hook plate provides excellent fixation for Weber Type A lateral malleolus fractures, which has a certain promotion value in clinical practice. 【Key words】 Lateral malleolus fracture; hook plate; fixation; rehabilitation
