Abstract:Objective To evaluate the clinic outcomes of transferring Flexor Digitorum Longus with Weil osteotomy in the treatment of Hallux valgus deformity with metatarsalgia, and the safety and complications. Methods From June 2015 to January 2019,25 patients with hallux valgus and metatarsalgia were treated in my department, all of them underwent hallux valgus corrective surgery (Scarf osteotomy or double plane osteotomy), and metatarsalgia was corrected with Weil osteotomy combined with transfering flexor digitorum longus to the dorsal proximal phalanx. There were 19 in the 2nd metatarsal, 2 in the 3rd metatarsal and 4 in the 2nd and 3rd metatarsal. All patients were given weight-bearing anterior-posterior and lateral view of the feet at preoperation and the final follow-up.Recording the plantar plate tear, recurrence of the metatarsalgia and hammer toe deformity, wound healing complications. And to record the AOFAS score and VAS pain score at pre-operation and the final follow-up. Results All the patients were followed up, the average follow-up was 23.3 months (9 months ~41 months), there was no recurrence of hammer toe deformity and metatarsalgia, no osteotomy nonunion or delayed union, and no ischemic necrosis of the toe. The superficial infection of the dorsal incision at the second metatarsophalangeal joint was found and healed after 3 weeks of oral antibiotics and dressing change. The AOFAS score and VAS score were significantly improved at the final follow-up. Conclusion Transfering of flexor digitorum longus with Weil osteotomy can effectively treat Hallux valgus deformity with metatarsalgia, with low recurrence rate.
